In generations past, it was unusual to change jobs, let alone careers. Most people worked until retirement, where they would gather a company pension for the rest of their days.
Times have changed, however, and now it’s more uncommon to stay at a single company for the length of one’s career. With more and more companies closing, merging and changing in other ways, it’s sometimes not possible to stay with a certain company for a long time, even if one wanted to.
